Bayern Munich gave hope to RB Leipzig with another lackluster performance against Mainz 05. Bavarians played a 2-2 draw against Mainz, which forced them to drop two points and gave Leipzig hope of challenging for the Bundesliga title.

Bayern disappointment in Uefa Champions League came with referees’ maligned decisions, but their followed up draw in domestic campaign forced them to delay their fifth consecutive Bundesliga title. Second placed debutant Leipzig is not far from the Bundesliga giants on points table, and a victory over Schalke on Sunday will bring them within six-point gap from the Bavarian leaders.

Bojan Krkic, the Stoke City loaned player scored the Mainz opener in third minute of the game to give visitors lead. Krkic also become the first Spaniard to score in top four leagues of the Europe. Former Barcelona player and La Masia product has scored in Laliga, Serie A, Premier League and now Bundesliga as well. He also become seventh player to score in Europe’s top four league.

Arjen Robben leveled the score with his 16th minute strike from Franck Ribbery assist, but Daniel Brosinki restored the lead for Mainz in 40th minute from the penalty spot. Thiago Alcantara came to rescue a point for the Bavarians with his equalizer in 73rd minute, but two lost points is good enough to give Leipzig hope for their title challenge.

The Bundesliga debutant has perfect opportunity to seal a victory against Schalke and put more pressure on league leader Bayern, whom they’ll be facing on penultimate day. RB Leipzig five victory out of five and Bayern Munich’s another loss may handover the Bundesliga title to the league debutant. Leicester City’s fairytale is witnessed last season in Premier League, it may be Leipzig season to emulate a Bundesliga fairytale.
