Champions League 2nd leg Playoff round fixtures will take place tonight and tomorrow. Twenty teams fate lies on these fixtures, ten from winners from the third qualifying round (Champions Route, five winners from the third qualifying round (League Route), two third-placed teams from associations 4–5, and three fourth-placed teams from associations 1–3. Those ten who will win the fixtures over both legs will qualify for Champions League 2016/17 group stage with Europe’s elites.
From the result of first-leg, only three teams are most likely to go through, although they still have to make sure they don’t concede too many goals as it is nothing impossible in football. The rest seven have to fight it out in the 2nd leg in their respective fixtures. Manchester City, first of the three fourth-placed team from association 1-3 is leading 5-0 against Steaua Bucuresti from the first leg played away are likely to qualify for the group stage, as they are not going to concede five goals at their home in Manchester Stadium.
Borussia Mönchengladbach, Second of the three fourth-placed team from association 1-3, leads Swiss side Young Boys 3-1 from the first leg played away is also likely to qualify for the group stage, and Celtic FC who are leading 5-2 from their away game against Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
The top team whose future is looming on their 2nd leg results are Porto vs Roma, as they are on the level with 1-1 from the first leg but Roma has an advantage as they will play at home in the 2nd leg. Villa Real vs Monaco (1-2), which Monaco lead and they will play at home is really going to ruin Villa Real Champions League dream, unless and until match takes a sharp turn in Real’s favour.
The other top team who may lose their berth is four-time Champions League winner Ajax. Ajax have played a 1-1 draw from the first leg against the Russian club Rostov and Rostov have an advantage of away goal from the 1st leg. It will be a big disappointment for Ajax if they lose the 2nd leg fixture.
The Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb have also played 1-1 draw at home against Austrian side FC Red Bull, it will be a game of great value for Dinamo Zagreb when they will travel to Red Bull Arena. Apoel Nicosia is up against Kopenhavn and Kopenhavn leads them 1-0, but the good news for Nicosia is that they will play at home and they can turn this narrow deficit in front of their home crowd. Bulgarian league sixth-placed side Ludogorets leads 2-0 against Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzeň. Polish team Legia Warsaw leads Irish side Dundalk from the first leg as well.
Let’s see who will compete with the European elites in Champions League group stage. There is going to be a plenty of late drama and overturn of fortunes late night today, after all, it’s Champions League.
