Serie A nail-biting opening weekend of 2016/17 season

Serie A, Italy’s top flight football may not be enjoying the same spectators support, sponsorship deals, and TV rights as EPL, Bundesliga and LaLiga commands in footballing world. It may be because Juventus have ruled the Serie A, when we talk about the no. of Scudettos won by them. But seriously, Serie A has not lost its competitiveness. It is still more competitive than other leagues.

Frank de Boer made a losing start to life in Serie A as his Inter Milan side lost 2-0 at Chievo thanks to Valter Birsa’s double strike. Carlos Bacca inspired AC Milan with his hat trick, but it was Milan’s goal-keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who saved the match with his brilliant save at the end of the day when Torino pick-up late in the match. Juventus only got rescued in the match against Fiorentina in last quarter after Higuain introduction in the match. Napoli played a 2-2 draw against lowly side Pescara. Lazio played a seven goal thriller against Atlanta, which they won at last 4-3. Genoa beat Cagliari 3-1 in another encounter.

It was only Roma from the last season table toppers who had a great run on opening week against 17th finished Udinese. They scored 4 goals and conceded none to prepare well for their upcoming second leg champions league playoff match on Wednesday. Their tie is unsettled against Roma with their first leg 1-1 draw result.

Juventus struggled but Higuain made his mark to steal the victory on his Juventus debut, afterall Juventus had splashed $90m on him, he better come to rescue whenever Juventus faces situation like this. Kalinic did well to equalize with his header for Fiorentina after Juventus Khedira fired for the host, but you can’t take away a genuine goal scorer debut from him, without him finding a place on score-sheet.

Inter were simply outclassed by Chievo, Birsa gave a heart-attack to Frank de Boer on his debut as Inter Milan’s coach. The sacking of Roberto Mancini doesn’t proved to be bring any better result for Inter Milan, although they can improve as they are considered to be the only team who can challenge Juve’s another Serie A challenge at the moment.

Let’s see what’s coming next week, they have started well, and it will be good to see someone else hands on Scudetto trophy this time. EPL and LaLiga have their own class, one belongs to manager’s class, another belong to player’s class, but don’t miss the Serie A, it has competitive class.
