Barcelona loses point in second match in a row

Barcelona, Lionel Messi, Celta Vigo, La Liga

La Liga leader Barcelona were enjoying a healthy lead at top till matchday 12. They had a chance to capitalize on the situation and extend their lead to seven points to their closest rival Valencia, but they played a 1-1 draw in table topper clash last week. It followed with another 2-2 draw against Celta de Vigo on Saturday as Barcelona loses point in second match in a row.

It’s very rare that away team walks away with a point from Camp Nou, but Celta Vigo just did that. They have been winning at Balaidos from last two seasons, but they were losing heavily at Camp Nou. This season they proved they can walk away with points at Camp Nou as well.

Iago Aspas started the scoring for the visitors at Camp Nou, but Barcelona managed to level the score within two minutes from Lionel Messi’s 13th of the season. Blaugranas had four clear chances to take the lead, but it didn’t go their way.

Luis Suarez had a goal disallowed for offside, which he wasn’t. Messi was denied couple of opportunity in the first-half as well, but thankfully he led his team to equalize. Second-half started brilliantly for Blaugranas as well. Suarez finally able to give Barcelona lead with the help of Messi and Jordi Alba’s combined play.

Barcelona lead didn’t last long as Maxi Gomez finds the equalizer for Celta Vigo. The hosts have many opportunities to win the game in final fifteen minutes, but Celta kept their nerve to not concede in final minutes.

Celta Vigo finally walks away with a point from Camp Nou, whereas Barcelona loses point in second game in a row. A positive result would have given Barcelona seven points lead over Valencia, whereas 11 point lead over Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid will play against Real Sociedad to close the gap to six points, whereas Real Madrid will play against Athletic Bilbao to manage the same point difference. Second place Valencia will face Getafe to close the gap to two point between themselves and league leader Barcelona.
