Jurgen Klopp came to Liverpool FC with lot of expectations. Club fans were expecting him to win their first Premier League trophy, but the German manager has failed to deliver in his first three years as club’s boss. Premier League dream is looking far away and club has even failed to move ahead of 4th round in FA Cup.
It’s been three years; Reds have been consistently eliminated at 4th round in Cup tie. This season their opponent were West Bromwich Albion, and delivered a below par performance at Anfield losing out the game 2-3.
Liverpool took advantage with Roberto Firmino strike in early minutes, but Jay Rodriguez leveled the score for West Brom. Once again Reds failed to occupy the lead and Baggies grabbed the lead from Joel Matip’s own goal before the end of first-half.
Mohamed Salah equalized for Liverpool in 78th minute, but it was Baggies’ day to enjoy a 5th round pass. Jay Rodriguez led them to victory in deciding minute and Reds finished with 4th round exit third time in a row.

Anfield giants lost against Wolverhampton Wanderers last season at the same stage. Richard Stearman and Andreas Weimann led his team to 2-1 victory despite Divock Origi’s late effort for the Reds. Klopp has no clue then, what goes wrong despite being in his second season in Cup competition. And this time, he has VAR advantage but his team failed to deliver when penalty got awarded using VAR system.
In 2015/16 season, Liverpool played a repeat fixture against West Ham United at London Stadium and loses 2-1 in extra-time game. Michail Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna led the hammers to fifth round and former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho effort goes in vain.
Before that Liverpool reached to semifinals in 2014/15 season before losing out to Aston Villa. Liverpool performances in FA Cup is going downwards with three consecutive fourth round exit. Klopp hasn’t helped the Reds in improving their performances in domestic competition and his sole priority of Premier League trophy hasn’t helped either.
Let’s see how long Klopp will survive at the helm of Liverpool. It’s not looking good with his transfer market movement as he loses Coutinho to Barcelona and failed to bring in a star of Brazilian’s level. They currently sit at 4th on points table in Premier League, but there is a convincing gap between them and leader Manchester City. There is 18 points gap with only 14 games left to play, which makes Premier League dream to wait for another long season.
FA Cup holds lot of respect in England and Klopp have to take it seriously. Fourth round finish won’t help for a team like Liverpool who have always been title favourite. Arsenal currently holds the pole position with 13 titles, whereas Manchester United is chasing them with their 12 titles. Liverpool is far behind with their seven FA Cup titles and it’s time to be back into the competition.
