Barcelona has shifted their focus from Marco Verratti to strengthen their midfield. Jean Michael Seri is the new name who has been rumored to be replacing Verratti from Barca’s agenda to sign a midfielder. The 25-year-old OGC Nice midfielder shined during Nice 3-1 victory over PSG on 35th match day of Ligue 1, and it earns him a name to be considered for playing in Blaugranas outfit.

Michael Seri is also known by the name of ‘African Xavi’, and he is one of the name closely monitored by Barcelona’s scouts. Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona’s Sporting Director Roberto Fernandez and scout Urbano Ortega is monitoring three of the Ligue 1 midfield stars. PSG’s Marco Verratti, Marseille’s Maxime Lopez, and Nice’s Michael Seri are three of the names who have been closely monitored by the Azulgranas.

Verratti costs too much, and he is not yet ready to move from the Parisian club. His contract runs until 2021 with PSG and the Parc des Princes based club wants to build their future around the 24-year-old Italian midfielder. It lefts Barcelona’s Sporting Director with little chance of acquiring the services of Verratti, and look for a different alternative.

Marseille’s 19-year-old revelation Maxime Lopez is also bound to stay in France for a longer duration. He finds himself central to Marseille’s new project and stay in his native country, it lefts Barcelona to point to their third option – Jean Michael Seri.

OGC Nice midfielder has 10 assists and six goals to his name this season. It’s very impressive stats for a player who arrived two seasons ago from the Portuguese Club Pacos Ferreira. He arrived in Nice costing them only 700,000 and his valuation has gone stronger in short span of time.

There are many clubs who are chasing the African Xavi, and if Barcelona wants to acquire his services, they’ll have to meet his 40m buyout clause. Premier League clubs like Southampton & Leicester City also wants the services of Ivory Coast star, and French giants PSG & Marseille trying to lure him as well. But, the player himself always wanted to play for Barcelona, and it’s a positive sign for Azulgranas.

In his recent interview with beIN Sports France, Seri said, “My biggest dream is to play for Barcelona, and I have this goal in my head.” It came as an insurance for Azulgranas, they only need to put more faith in the player if they wants to avoid the cost of Marco Verratti.
