Ander Herrera joined Manchester United three years ago in a £28 million move from Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish international impressed with his performances under Coach Jose Mourinho, and rumors are FC Barcelona is interested in the player as a potential replacement for Captain Andres Iniesta. But, Mourinho sees him as one of the key player in his plans and United’s vice-chairman Ed Woodward is warned to secure the player.

Herrera has 12 months remaining in his current contract with an option of 12 month extension, and it’s right time for Red Devils to seal the deal with an improved contract. Express Daily reports, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward met with Herrera’s agent Arturo Canales in Washington during the club’s pre-season tour of America to discuss new terms in a bid to secure the future of 27-year-old Spanish midfielder.

Ander Herrera reunion with Ernesto Valverde may take place

Spaniard has already secured his place in Spain national team squad and a move to Barcelona will make him a regular in La Roja outfit. Although, he is keen to stay at Old Trafford after emerging as one of the most influential player in Mourinho’s side and he has been tipped as one of the possible candidate for club’s future captain.

Herrera was Manchester United’s player of the season, but a lure for possible reunion with his former club boss may land him at Camp Nou this season. There are opportunities for him to play in his home country and in one of the best side in club football. Every Spaniard dreams of playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid, and it also opens the door in Spain squad. Herrera must be aware of that, and it will be an honor for him to take the place of midfield maestro Andres Iniesta.

Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona new coach hasn’t been able to secure the move of Marco Verratti from PSG. It will be a bargain buy for him, if he lands Ander Herrera at Camp Nou. Barcelona struggled last season in the middle of the pitch with deteriorating performances of ageing Andres Iniesta & Sergio Busquets, and new hires Andre Gomes & Denis Suarez failed to fill in the boots of legendary duo. It gives room for someone in familiar territory to own the pitch and establish himself as a possible replacement. Herrera have done it past for Spain’s national team and he can do it for Barcelona as well.

Manchester United needs to secure the Spaniard future on concrete terms. Barcelona is known for paying heavily for a new hire and if Herrera is their priority, United need to put a buyout clause in his new contract.
